Brow lift cosmetic surgery may be performed using the traditional or the endoscopic technique. Recovery can marginally vary in each case, and the surgeon will discuss the recovery aspects during the initial consultation. The first goal of the surgeon will be to help the patient make an informed choice.
The patient should be prepared to diligently follow the surgeon’s instructions for a safe and predictable recovery. Stellar, reliable, and board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides brow lift to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and other towns and cities in this region of the state.
Temporary Side Effects
Following brow lift surgery, the patient is likely to experience a few mild side effects in the early recovery phase. These side effects will be much less evident if the surgeon uses advanced techniques such as an endoscopic brow lift. These may include:
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Tingling
- Numbness
- Pain or general discomfort
- Tiredness
- Itching
Early Recovery Phase
The patient should use ice packs around the eyes in the first two days after brow lift cosmetic surgery. This will help mitigate the swelling. The surgeon may advise the patient to sleep with the head in an elevated position for at least one week. Pain is not a significant concern, but some tightness in the forehead and brow areas may be experienced. The surgeon may prescribe pain meds for the first few days.
Maximum swelling will occur in about two to three days, and will begin subsiding after that. Bruising will usually occur minimally in the brow, but a little more in the surrounding areas. Bruising should resolve on its own in about two to three weeks.
The surgeon may allow the patient to perform bathing and showering in one or two days after the surgery. However, steam baths, hot water tubs, and hair dryers should be avoided for a few weeks. Due to numbness in the areas, the patient may not feel the hot temperature, so it is safer to avoid hot water.
The surgeon may remove the sutures in about a week to 10 days after a brow lift. The patient is encouraged to perform short walks and light activities at home in the first week to improve blood flow in the incision areas. But strenuous exercises and heavy lifting must be avoided for about three weeks.
Recovery Instructions
Common recovery instructions in case of brow lift surgery may include the following:
- Wear bandages for one to two days after the procedure
- Wait until the bandages are removed to shower and wash hair
- Keep head elevated with pillows for a few days after procedure
- Apply ice packs to reduce swelling
- Apply any prescribed ointment to incision areas to help minimize scarring
Results
It can take a few weeks for the swelling to subside after brow lift. Thereafter, the patient will be able to notice a significant improvement in the brow and forehead appearance with a smooth and wrinkle-free look.
