Breast Lift With Implants

Breast Lift With Implants Risks And Safety Breast lift with implants is a major cosmetic surgery procedure that should only be performed by a board certified and experienced plastic surgeon. However, certain risks will still be inherent to the procedure, just like any other surgery. In addition, the procedure will also have some implant related risks, which you should know about.

A committed surgeon will explain the potential risks and safety information to you during the initial consultation so that you can make a well-considered choice. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides breast implants with lift to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding communities.

Surgical Risks

Infection

After the breast lift with implants cosmetic surgery, a few patients may show signs of excessive redness and inflammation in the incision areas, or may have pain, pus or fever, which persists even after pain medications. Your skin the treated sites may be warm to touch. These may point to an infection, and you should see your surgeon as soon as possible.

Hematoma

Some patients may experience hematoma or excessive bleeding after breast lift with implants cosmetic surgery. If you have chosen a skilled and knowledgeable plastic surgeon, they will review your medical history thoroughly and take appropriate preventive steps to minimize this risk. You should also follow your surgeon’s pre-operative care instructions and avoid certain medications and supplements to reduce this risk.

Poor Anesthesia Reaction

Despite the pre-surgery assessment, in rare situations, an adverse reaction to anesthesia may occur during your breast augmentation with lift surgery. This risk is higher if you have certain pre-existing medical conditions. An anesthesiologist or registered nurse anesthetist will monitor you during the surgery and will be ready to manage your risk of complications.

Numbness or Change of Sensation

Breast lift with augmentation surgery may involve repositioning of your areolas and nipples. This could lead to temporary numbness or change in sensation in the incision sites. In rare cases, this change may be long lasting or even permanent. However, in general, this is just a temporary condition which will resolve by itself over time.

Implant-Related Risks

Breast implant placement is a key part of your breast lift with augmentation cosmetic surgery. This creates its own unique risks, such as:

Capsular Contracture

The breast implants are placed within your breast tissue. As a result, your body’s natural immune response will cause scar tissue formation around the implant. This scar tissue capsule can sometimes tighten or harden, causing persistent pain or discomfort for some patients.

If the scar tissue contracts too much, it will squeeze the implant shell, causing it to get damaged, misshaped or move away from its natural position. In these cases, your surgeon may have to perform a breast revision procedure.

Implant Rippling

In some cases, the volume of breast skin available may be limited, but the implant size may be relatively bigger. This can cause the implant to develop creases or folds over time, resulting in a rippling effect on the surface. This could adversely impact the natural aesthetic appearance of the breast.

Implant Shifting

In a few cases, the breast implant may move from its original position at some point after the surgery. With larger sized implants, the risk of displacement could be slightly higher. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim receives patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and nearby areas for breast lift with implants surgery.
