After breast lift surgery, your body will need time to rest and heal before you can resume your normal activities – especially something as physically strenuous as exercise. At the same time, you do not want to be entirely sedentary; light walks within a few days of surgery can significantly help your healing process. Walking prevents your blood from clotting and expands your lungs, which can be vulnerable to partial collapse after surgery.
Ultimately, every patient heals differently. With guidance from Dr. Kim, most breast lift patients are able to resume upper body and aerobic exercise after 3–4 weeks of downtime. When you do return to exercising freely, use a sports bra to avoid pulling the scars at your incisions.
Throughout your recovery process, be sure to attend every follow-up appointment Dr. Kim schedules with you so he can track your healing and make sure you avoid any post-surgical complications. If your breast lift was extensive, and/or more tension was placed on your surgical wounds, Dr. Kim may recommend waiting 4–6 weeks before returning to vigorous upper body exercise.
