Body Lift
Following your body lift cosmetic surgery, you should be prepared for a downtime of at least one week. The exact recovery time can vary between patients, depending on whether you had a total body lift or a partial body lift surgery. In any case, you should avoid vigorous activities or exercises for a few weeks post-surgery.
Adhere to the post-op care instructions of your surgeon to ensure proper and early healing of your skin and underlying tissue. If you have questions about recovery, discuss with them with your surgeon in advance during your consultation. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Eugene Kim provides lower, upper, and mid body lift procedures to patients in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, CA, and surrounding communities.
Immediate Post-Surgical Phase
You may have to stay at the hospital overnight if you have had an extensive body lift plastic surgery. Even if your surgeon allows you to return home the same day of the surgery, they will keep you for several hours in a monitoring area after the surgery is completed and you are brought out of anesthesia.
At home, you will have to take care to protect the incision sites from injury and infection. You may experience mild soreness, swelling and bruising for the first few days. Your surgeon may prescribe mild pain meds to keep you comfortable. In the first week, stay confined to home, but from the second day you can perform light activities and take short walks to improve your blood flow and support your healing.
First Few Weeks
In the first week, you may require additional pillows and a special sleeping arrangement to keep your body comfortable and safe for proper healing. If necessary, do not hesitate to take help with daily chores for the first few days. Your goal should be to protect the incision sites from unnecessary strain. Do not bend or lift heavy objects until the healing improves.
You may be able to return to your workplace from the second week once your sutures and drainage tubes have been removed. Continue to wear your compression garment as suggested by your surgeon, follow the dietary advice, and avoid strenuous activities even at the workplace.
Bruising in the treated sites would considerably subside by the second or third week, but swelling will go away gradually over several weeks or months. Depending on how well your body heals following your body lift plastic surgery, you may be able to resume mild physical exercises and fitness activities in about four to six weeks.
Follow-Up Appointments with the Surgeon
Follow-up visits to the surgeon are vital to ensure that your recovery is progressing as anticipated. If you have any concerns, make sure to share them with your surgeon during these appointments.
Your surgeon will assess how well your incisions are healing, and whether you require any additional tests or adjustments to your routine. Maintaining your follow-up appointment schedule will increase your chances of an excellent outcome after your body lift cosmetic surgery.
