When do Implants Settle after Breast Augmentation?

Spread the love

Breast implants will settle into their final position about four months after breast augmentation. In some cases, it may take up to six months. If your breast implants have not settled within this time, you may need a revision surgery.

At first, your breasts may feel firm and as though they are too high. In the months following surgery, the implants will gradually settle and soften. It is possible that one breast implant will settle at a different rate than the other, which is fairly typical.

After breast augmentation, you will be shown a massage technique that alleviates post-operative discomfort and encourages the breast implant to settle. If your breast implants have not settled after six months, you will probably be asked to continue massaging for another month or two while your surgeon monitors your progress. If needed, a revision surgery can settle the breast implant by opening up the pocket that the implant rests in.
